Rising 425 feet above the Texas Hill Country, the massive pink granite dome of Enchanted Rock has drawn people for thousands of years. Native Americans told stories of ghost fires flickering on its summit. Early settlers reported strange creaking sounds on cool nights
(now understood as the rock contracting after a hot day).
Today, climbing Enchanted Rock is almost a rite of passage for Texans. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and on a clear day, you can see why this region is called the Hill Country.
